I have read a lot of books in my time, I do know one thing for sure is that it keeps your mind active and healthy as you go into old age, another is once you become an experience reader it can help you take some of them "timed" exams for a job as such as the Postal Service, and last thing is I’ve seen so many words it helps me keep my spelling correctly when it comes to writing.... hope this answers your Question.
