It makes me laugh that Bono goes on and on about world poverty (a worthy cause of course) but when one of my friends was over in Dublin they went to his hotel and couldn't afford a Coca Cola!!! Talk about double standards if he wants to give money towards Third World Debt why doesn't he pledge a quarter of his wealth, as I doubt he'd miss it.
Bono should use his status to make issues like poverty into world issues but I think he thinks of himself as a genius and as a politician. I'd love to see him actually run to be a politician and realise you cannot just focus on one issue.
I'd say he's somewhat of a hypocrite.

Well, both "twit" and "****" have negative connotations, so I'm going to have to go with "neither."
I'm really getting tired of ignorant posts such as this, but, alas, I feel compelled to reply to them anyway.
Mediocre band? You must be joking! U2 is one of the most prolific and influential bands in the world. They've been around since the 70s and have never stopped being relevant. They may not be your personal taste but that's your problem.
Why do people have such a problem with Bono's "politics"? He is raising awareness for issues that we SHOULD care about. AIDS in Africa is a huge problem. Nothing in the Western world even comes close to it.
The world is becoming a much smaller place with all the technology we have at our disposal. We can't afford to look inwardly anymore. If we have the means to make a difference in the world, why shouldn't we?
If you don't like his philanthropic message, go ahead and bury your head in the sand. Nobody's stopping you.
And for that matter, I'm tired of people saying "If he cares so much, why doesn't he give all his money...BLAH BLAH BLAH!" He grew up in working-class Dublin with very little. Now he has the means to enjoy his success and, as a U2 fan who helps pay his salary, I wouldn't WANT him to live in a shack somewhere. The way I see it, he earned it so he should enjoy it. Anyway, even if he WERE to give all his money away, it would only put the tiniest of dents in the problem. One rich man isn't going to save the world. It takes all of us. Every little bit helps.

Yep you're the only one that thinks that.
First of all, the man speaks NOT of politics. Does he protest the war? Does he show support or anti support to any political figures? The answers to these questions is no.
Bono speaks peace and is trying to help people and he gets results.
What position is is abusing? Is he raising your taxes? Are his album prices or concert tickets going up (other than normal inflation).
I think before you criticize this man who is not forcing anyone to do anything to cost you extra money, you need to do some research on the subject. If you don't like what he's saying, turn off the tv or don't read Rolling Stone.

I love U2's music, but as for Bono himself, he's a twit with an @. He's a hypocrite politicically. He's campaining for this that and the other, asking world leaders to end poverty, when he himself has a private jet and a personal priest who flies around the world with him. He also sued his stylist becasue she took a hat that belonged to the band that she attests was given to her as a gift. I don't have a lot of time for him personally.

totaly with those who think he's a jumped up ****.He was not worrying himself about anything but getting a record deal 25 years ago,now he's made his money he thinks those of us who have to pay our mortagages, taxes etc should be more selfless .If he's so concerned why did he not go into politics when he was young instead of starting a rock band.

He's a ****. If he's that bothered why hasn't he handed all his money over? bit hypocitical to bleat on about the goverment cutting 3rd world debt, but that comes out of us, the publics taxes, he's got enough money not to give a crap whether he has to pay more tax or not.

****. The same goes for Sting.
If he's serious about politics, he should pack in music and stand for parliament (and probably get humiliated at the polls).
