Well, I would say that there was a lot of mining work in Australia at this time ( for opals, gold etc,) but Australia in the cities always had work available in the hospitality industry, the tourism, manufacturing industries and not to mention the medical side ~ Australia were and still are renowned physicians, nurses, doctors and scientists.
