This problem can usually be rectified by simply installing a DVD player program such as "power DVD" or "Win DVD".

These programs usually come bundled with new DVD drives or computers so if your lucky a friend or family member will have a copy you can use.

I personally have about 10 copies of power DVD as it comes bundled with Lite-on drives.

The reason this works is because the DVD software re installs the codecs required to play the DVDs. These codecs are automatically recognised by windows media player and zune so there is no need to use the software afterwards.

Hope this works for you.

You don't by any chance have a Dell system.
If so all I want you to do is alter the clock date back to lets say a week. Double click the clock at change the date to sometime last month.

Now try to play Dvds

If this works, you have a issue common with most Dell system, in that they have given you the wrong software. In this case I would email Dell.

------------
Now if you do not have Dell, ignore all of the above.

The best advise would be to contact:

Microsoft
Your Dvd decoder company

It may be the case that you need to download a new dvd decoder. I would love to type a lot about Dvd decoders but Anthonys answer is spot on is this region.
