The British on the whole are quite fond of war, especially the Welsh. However, since it is the English who hold the purse strings, we all have to wait for them to give us the go ahead; then we do war thing.
Civil war and revolution are not a good idea. The British got their finger burned very badly during the American Revolution and have wisely steered clear of such ever since.
What the British and others have instead of revolution is democracy, which operates very much like a perpetual revolution without blood on the streets. Sometimes I think a bit of blood on the streets may do some good - political fisticuffs.
The only nation on earth which still has an ongoing revolution is France. When Mao Tse Tung was asked what he thought of the French revolution, he replied, "It's too early to say." Quite right Mister Chairman.
Us Brits have satire because we know when someone is telling a joke about us and fooling around. Even the targets of satire appreciate it's importance. Think of it...there you are, a not very well known politician, when suddenly you are being lampooned in a satirical play on TV.
There's no such thing as bad publicity. For this reason, not only is satire tolerated in UK it is positively encouraged.
I just wish we had more satire on TV. We only have Bemner, Bird and Fortune at the moment.

The Brits did indeed have a serious revolution in the 1640s (a time when satire was not unknown) and a much quieter one in the late 1680s, plus numerous unsuccessful attempts, eg 1683, 1715, 1745, not to mention the many Irish attempts to secede.

Because they've been invaded so many times - first the Romans, then the Anglo-Saxons, then the Normans...they just want to settle down, drink beer in their back gardens and 'ave a laugh.

Revolutions are messy things not run by committees with proper procedures. If you can successfully deride what irritiates you there seems to be less need to kill it.
