Yes it could go either way and both would hurt. If you received no answers that would hurt. And if you received 30 answers that would feel great until you read all of the insults your little heart could take in one day!!

I've noticed that people who are offended have a tendency to write back in defense to prove that the person is wrong or that they just want to call the questioner out as an A whole.
