what should I buy for him he is a friends son who is going to be christened on sunday and would like to get him a gift but nothing to expensive I was only invited to the after party

How about one of those sterling silver baby braceletts? you could have it engraved with his or her Christening date. They are not usually very expensive.

A nice card, something engraved, if you take a picture of the child on that day have it frame.
