Rumor has it that "they" invented a car that gets like 200 miles to the gallon. And supposedly the big oil companies bought the patent and burried it where nobody could find it. All so they could continue to make billions off of us. Any thoughts?

Frankly I think its quite true...heard the same stories for the last 50 yrs or so, and our total lack of preparedness for petroleum price hikes is too conspicuous to be anything but on purpose. Irritating to is the fact few, currently no, diesel fuel cars are available in the US market, gotta buy a truck if you want diesel. The new technology would bring fuel consumption down by about 30%. Should have had alternative energy sources available years ago.

It doesn't make good business sense to do that. A company would make far more money from owning the patent of your mythical car than it would from destroying all information about it.

Also, patents are held in Washington, D.C. For this plot to work, your evil oil company would have to:

1. Get their hands on all the notes, production models, diagrams, etc. and destroy them all.

2. Kill everyone involved with the project.

3. Break into the US Patent and Trademark Office and destroy all the files there.

4. Kill anyone at the patent office who touched those files.

Vicious canard. I suppose you also believe that JFK was killed by a cabal of Cuban sympathizers? If there was anyone who can build an engine that can get 200 mpg, they wouldn't sell it to the big oil conglomerate, they'd mass-market the thing themselves and make a lot more money. By the bye, once a patent is issued, it becomes public information, so it could not be "buried".
