Yep. About two years ago on a bet with my wife I wrote eight lines of doggerel and sent it in via Email. I am still getting offers to attend readings (that I would have to pay for) and to have my "wonderful" poem published (for a small fee of course) If you have written something you think is good, invest in a copy of the current Writer's Handbook or use the one in the library and send it in to someone who will pay you real money for your work. All you are going to do is get on an Email list.

Well, I got my poem published with Poetry.com two years ago. When I got the book, I was majorly excited because my poem was the first in the book. Then I noticed that that page stuck out just a little bit more, making me suspicious that they put every person's poem in the front for the book they buy. I wondered many times if my poem woudl still be published if I had not bought the book.

The whole point of the contest is to separate you from your money.

In this case, the contest gets people who want to be recognized to send in an entry, of course it gets ito the finals, and then the book thing comes into play , extolling how wonderful it will be to be published, and it can go on your resume as an author, you can buy books for your friends as presents and keepsakes, to show how wonderful your work is.

But do I have a deal for you,,,send me a poem, yours or copied (doesn't matter) and $25 (real) and I will send you your poem back with others in softcover version. Discounts for orders of 25 or more.

I agree completely with the first response you received, they are a scam of a publishing company. Yes they 'published' some of my poems back when i was 17, and i've never seen them because i didn't buy the book. Go to the bookstore and find the current edition of poets and writers market if you're interested in getting work published. They have a complete list of magazines and ezines accepting all forms of work, plus a list of publishing companies. It is the best reference to finding the correct market for you're writing style that is avaliable. Good luck!

Ah! Poetry.com or the International Library stikes again! Yep, you got 'em sized up about right. Trash the letter and go find a better site.

Yep, poetry.com. I've had a few poems published in their coffeetable books. Its kinda cool, I think. I even won a "poem of the month" type deal from them.
