The 1970's because of Grease, Star Wars, American Graffiti, Love Story, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Animal House, 1941, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Silver Streak and a lot more.
Not to mention we had the drive in to go and hang out and watch movies.

I would say the peak of the Movies was probably during the 1930's when most of the country went to them and it was before TV and everyoone needed to escape from the Great Depression for a few hours in a fantasy world
