Hi there,
Is this the definion of water table ? or something else.

1. This would more correctly be a "confined aquifer" and can be found at various depths - even dipping. The overlying blocking layer is usually called an "aquatard". Because it is confined it can follow the structural dip of the beds.
2. A water table is better applied to the level at which water is found over a large area - hence, the term "table" (think flat surface.)

AQUATARD. Under the aquatard is known as a confined aquifer. The overlaying low permeable layer is confining the under layer that more permeable. For example a clay layer on top of a sandy saturated layer.

Not the water table.
The water table is the upper limit of the saturated layer. It goes closer to the surface when more water is in the aquifer and farther from the surface when less water is in the aquifer.

You are describing a confined aquifer.
