If you want to try it then install it on a separate partition and dual boot with XP, or what other OS you've installed on your computer... It's the best way to see for yourself what the all shiny Vista's all about.
I can enumerate several reasons here for which I won't use Vista until the first service pack release (which is due to be launched this summer from what i've heard)... but it's your decision to make!

Note to the "trained computer specialist" below... If Vista isn't finished yet why did they launch it on the market? I don't care if it will be 100% better then XP when it finishes if it brakes my system 10 times before that happens... People are paying for products that must work, from which you can expect stability, performance and so on...
As for free software, obviously you've never used one and simply can't understand the concept of open source...

for starters vista isn't a crap OS in basic terms people who don't be attentive to a thank you to apply the great potential says issues like that, a number of the video games wont run because of the fact there are particular components interior the video games that wasn't made for vista, yet there are quite some video games on the marketplace with XP, vista compatable..it particularly is going to say it on the lower back..i'm utilising vista and play many video games from 3-4 years lower back designed for XP with none problems. i'm enormously particular you could replace your residing house windows to run ninety 8 ME, XP yet not sure how.....

I agree with orlandobillybob including the bit about dell tech. Guess dell tech was maybe smoking something he got free!!!!

I just bought a new lap top with a free upgrade to vista. Is Dell tech saying that because I am getting this free it will not be safe. What a load of crap. He's obviously spent too long trying to put dells right lol. Even found a software programme called de-crapifier aimed specifically for dell computers. May be dell tech should install it on himself lol.

Damn, what was your quesion again, oh yes. Not got my free vista yet but will wait until sp1 comes out then try it. If I find my printer and camera doesn't work then it will get ditched and will go back to xp.

Vista is good. I've had no probs in 4 weeks except my usb wifi thing doesn't work anymore ):

Installing new drivers for 1 or 2 things is no hassle.
If people look hard enough there is a compatabilty mode which lets you run progs in xp/me/2000 mode which is cool and to get the run box all you have to do is type run in the search box. It does ask if you want to do this and are you sure but it's no big deal.
And as for virus stuff, all i'm using is windows firewall, defender and AVG free edition which seems enough.

You also get a lot of windows progs ie dvd maker live messenger, media center, mobile device center, movie maker, windows meeting space and more.
So it's a big thumbs up from me (:

Wow ... delltech needs an upgrade, what say you?

The trouble with vista is ... that it is new. Anything new needs to have the bugs worked out. My computer is brand new and can support vista, but I need the stability of XP pro. In a year or so, I MIGHT upgrade - IF there is a reason to do so. Even as an IT consultant that is always using the computer for business purposes, I don't have a reason to.

you see the trouble with vista is ......
that they changed all the functions around and trys to act more secure.
Wheres the run command gone from the start menu, why ask me twice if i want to send somthing to the recycle bin and then ask windows for authorization to do it. why try making a fancy graphical interface that eats up ram and include little side bar gimmicks that everyone has tried on programs like desktop x, and got bored off.
Why police my internet to the extent that i have to click 10 times just to get permission to access web content.
thats about the start of it, its very buggy also with companies already starting to release drivers and software vista compatible, but only starting so the transition is taking time.
I believe that vista is the way foward but for the time being we should all relax with our XP, having complete compatibilaty with all our software and games, and most importantly saving computer rescources that are being wasted on junk and glitter for more deserving sofware and games.
a computer running XP needs only 64mb min, Vista is 512mb
if you only have 512mb - 1gb ram (as most computers do) then you lose a lot more memory to the OS.

Vista is still a reletatively new operating system. Not all programs one might download have been tryed and tested with Vista yet and as such, one may encounter errors with programs that have not been tryed and tested.

Now, as for my personal oppinion, I would strongly advise you not to get Vista. I would personally recommend a Linux distribution (Debian 3.1 is the fastest Linux distribution there is).
Vista is also so resource hungry.

Hello, my ID is Dell Tech, a trained computer specialist...
Many people hate windows Vistaoperating system because they’re constantly nagged with viruses and spy-wares, and those dangerous program called “ Trojan horse.”

These people are aware of the viruses, everybody should know at age 4 that windows is vulnerable to viruses, but they keep downloading free software off the Internet anyway.

Do you people know what is a software? A software is like a rat poison or a fish bate, it can threaten your OS’s life. Do you think a software was made my itself? No, it was a man or woman who designed the software to be compatible with Windows. A person who design software also knows how to combine harmful codes with the software to harm people’s computer. Would you accept a free cup of water from someone you don’t know?

So these software seem to be very desirable, and people are so hungry for them. And guess what? They’re FREE software, so why not take your share? It’s like wanting to kill 500 rats in one day, so the person simple design a software for free so these people can take advantage of it. BAM! You are infected, your 10./000 songs are all corrupted, your 10.000 photos are all damaged. And your credit card information has been stolen.

Why don’t you people realize that FREE Anti virus software were designed by Human being? If FREE Anti virus software were as great as those subscribed ones, wouldn’t the companies that sell Anti Virus software go bankruptcy? Hence: It is FREE and is better than the subscribed ones. You people are so pathetic. NOTHING FREE IS GOOD, unless from a trusted source.

So, why blame Microsoft for your windows corruptions? Why don’t you all blame yourself for being stupid?

To answer your question, though, Vista is currently incompatible with many softwares, but I am 100% sure Vista will be 100% better than XP. Just allow Vista to complete

vista is ok... thought it would be better... and no you have to uninstall some programmes ie antivirus software and reinstall once you have gone to the website... also certain programmes have a compatability issue with vista.. but give or take a month or two and these issues will probably be sorted by windows.. hope this helps

I swear..

Vista is making war's like Republicans and democrats.

Vista is new, so it will have issues, it is new so newer hardware, hell even older hardware will not work with it.

one of the main reasons why it has so many issues now is because of user incompetence , trying to install vista on a pentium 3 1ghz machine is not going to work ,installing it on a 5 yr old video card is not going to work.

Most of the issues is not Vista itself, but on the user side, thinking they can just buy Vista and use it by itself.
