Compatible Tankmates for Oscar:
These fishes usually make good tank mates - Large Plecostomus and other large Neotropical Cichlids such as Texas Cichlids, Jack Dempseys, and Salvini.

Oscars are also often be kept in aquariums with White Tip Sharks, Tinfoil Barbs, Clown Knife Fish, Black Barred Tiger Fish, a group of Large Clown Loaches, and some large Eels such as a Snow Flake Eel.

Own Compatibility: It seems that six Oscars is about the smallest number of Oscars that can live together without the weakest Oscar being miserable. Else a single one is fine.

I have a fishtank wih about a dozen Oscars in about 900 gallons of water, with Texas Cichlids, Jack Dempseys and Clown Knife Fish as tankmates.

I have a large oscar, and i have a 2 silver sharks in there with him, they are large ones, and i have had no trouble, they all get on really well as the silver shark is a very peaceful fish, so maybe that is why he doesnt feel threatened, also i have a polypterus in there as well (a bichir) which is like a snake looking fish but i have a large tank (126 gallons)

Just speak to your fish shop before buying any fish, and ask them that if there is a problem will they give you a refund/credit note, most will refund you the full prce if it is within a week - Good Luck

Some Oscars tells me you already have more than one and probably more than two. Unless you have a 135+ gallon tank you need to worry about what to do with the Oscars when they grow up far more than what to put with them.

Assuming you have a truely massive tank that will hold so much fish load you can put Oscars with most other large aggresive South American Cichlids.

If you have ample room in you aquarium you can put a variety of fish with the oscars as long as they are at leats half the size of the oscar or preferably as large as them, you can have types such as silver dollars, large angle fish, large plec types (theses are the types with the sucker mouths most people know of), if you want to know the full variety do a google serch for large tropical fish and it will give you some great sites to look on.

Well, if you have a tank big enough to house several oscars, (150 gallons +) I would give a common pleco a good home. They live well with oscars, and are really impressive looking when allowed to grow to their full size potential.

hope you have a large enough tank before you even think of adding more fish.
if your oscars are still small they will grow to a good size, you can really only add fish that will grow to a similar size so this must be taken into account also (lots of big fish in a small tank= lots of dead fish)
any fish that is small enough to fit in anothers mouth is potantial food

Go onto www.thinkfish.co.uk and go onto the community creator. You input the dimensions of tank, type of filtration etc and put the amount of fish and type of each fish you already have, want to have. It will tell you of any conflicts between the fish and also if you are in danger of over-stocking the tank. Try it out, I use it all the time.
