Because it's a test. If it was easy everyone would pass with no effort. If it's a struggle then you have to work harder to survive and you appreciate your successes more. Adversity builds character. It stretches you as a person. Many people who achieve greatness do so after many trials, sorrows & pains. It is because life is so hard that they are motivated to struggle & overcome its obstacles. An oyster suffers great pain to create a pearl. Beauty can be borne out of great hardship.

Life is hard because if it was easy it would be pointless. The difficult challenges we must overcome and hard decisiosn we must make shape are future and add adventure and excitment to every day. If life was easy and we didn't need to do any of the above, life would also be boring. Why is it that for many people jumping out of planes is much more fun then sitting at home reading a book? Because humans crave danger and adventure. So to get back to your question, life is hard because in part we make it so. We deliberatly incorporate danger and adventure into our lives to make it more exciting.
Would you rather live a nice, quite life where nothing exciting happened and everything was planned out or would you rather have your time be filled with challenges to overcome?

Life is hard for many reasons.
1.) God gives us tests.
2.) Because it isn't fair.
3.) Because there is evil in the world.
4.) Because it isn't soft?
5.) Somebody let it sit out without covering it in plastic wrap or putting it in an airtight container.
6.) Because it is a fossil of another life that was around a long time ago.
7.) So that it is more durable?
Just a few right off the top of my head.

I believe sometimes we humans make our lives harder than they need to be. Our dreams, expectations drive us to work harder, longer, and to the point of exhaustion and defeat. We need to all introspect and report back. Do not worry about the Jones' or the Smiths' etc. That is where the struggle begins....this competition to all drive a Hummer. I drive a 1992 Jeep and it is paid for and I don't owe anyone an apology for that. It is easier said than done for most but, I seem to have found a way to drive that ole jeep down the street as tho it were a Lexus. It just doesn't matter....it really doesn't. What do you need to live? Once in a while get a 'want'.... Do you understand what I am trying to tell you? Be different,,,,,,it's not against the law. Relax....lower your expectations and enjoy.

I'll assume this is not just an academic question.
All people have hard times in their lives... an anthropology teacher once told our class that regardless of how it may look from the outside, everyone has had some measure of pain in their lives - it is something that defines our humanity.
Luckily, for almost all of us, it is transitory.. we feel it, deal with it and learn from it. Hopefully, we can then use it to empathize with others.
It will get better. Talk with somebody; we've all felt pain.
Peace

That is how we learn and grow. We in the U.S. have it easy compared to any other country in the world. Yes it is hard. But it all depends how hard we take life. If we are easygoing then it is not as difficult. Each personality takes lifes hardships differently.

Would you really want it to be easy? Think about it... Every scrape, scratch, or obstacle leaves imprints on you. The events, or challenges, help to shape you. If everything was easy you wouldn't be as strong or as interesting. You wouldn't appreciate anything either. You'd just expect things to be easy, good, and beautiful. Those things wouldn't really even exist if you want to think about it that way. There would be nothing to compare anything to. (I'm speaking metaphorically, as if events were objects.) It's the diversity of life that makes it worth living. The hard times are what make heroes.

There's practically no such thing as a "hard life" in the United States of America. There are literally BILLIONS of people on the planet who would literally give an arm or a leg to trade places with you.
Get some perspective and learn to appreciate what you've got.

It is so because you have told yourself it is hard. You have judged the events in your life and called them "hard". This is what you constantly tell yourself. And it is so. because of it. Try telling yourself "life is a wonderful gift, each day is a present that I am opening every moment". Indeed life has its difficulties but we always seem to get through them. I can call them difficulties or I can call them opportunities. It shall be as I say. Life, my dear, is what YOU make it.

It is for some. Okay, okay, for most. But there must be some people somewhere who have had it pretty good all their lives and it didn't go to their head and they are still living full, productive and enjoyable lives. Okay, maybe not. It's because we have nerve endings and can feel pain. Eliminate pain and life wouldn't be nearly so hard.
