Absolutely. Character DOES matter.
Keep up the good work, RLP; I got your back. Truth.

Duncan Hunter has no scandals. A straw poll was conducted on March 1, 2007 showed him finishing a close third behind McCain (1) and Giuliani (2).
That being said, although I am a conservative I don't really put heavy weight into this stuff. I think it gets in the way of good candidates. Divorce isn't always immoral. Sometimes people stop loving each other. I'd rather have honesty about it than the lie Bill and Hillary have kept up all these years. Adultery is probably the worst of the immorality that you mentioned and I immensely dislike those that can do such a thing, yet I believe that our elections don't foster the honesty required to get a divorce since it is used as a black eye on candidates.
Look at Bush; an alcoholic who has tried drugs. That's pretty immoral not to mention criminal, but I don't have a problem with it as he was honest and that's not who he is now. I'm not saying that I think candidates should be as immoral as they would like, just that we should recognize that they are humans and aren't infallible. We would get a lot more honest candidates this way. I believe honesty is the more important issue.

I do find character to be an important issue for a Presidential candidate, especially since he represents me to the rest of the world. I do not, however find it to be the only issue. I also like to hear about their economic strategies, education policies, and domestic and foreign agendas. I have come to realization that people in power got there by stepping on toes and doing some things that I would probably have too much integrity for, but the best thing to do is to vote for the individual that you think is best suited for the job. As time goes on, if more people would vote this instead of sticking to their party or voting based on tabloid television, then we would eventually get to weed out the bad and get better candidates and representatives.

There are candidates that are not as bad as all that, Hillary Clinton stuck by an adulterer, and saved her marriage and any thing else said about her is mainly due to a repuglican tactic known as Character assassination, Barik Obama although experimenting with drugs as a youth, is a fine, moral and Christian man. Probably the best of candidates if not for his youth,(which alone should not preclude him from being a viable candidate, John Kennedy was 43 when elected) and his lack of experience. He is highly intelligent and quite moderate. Well educated, and he was one of us. He came from the south side of Chicago, worked for $13,000 a year as a counselor. He knows what it is to struggle in life.

I find the "character" of many politicians to be lacking in integrity; as I find yours.
Integrity is a much larger issue than sexual issues, dearie. It involves actually doing things for other people because one is in a POSITION to make things happen.
It involves making real contributions to society in general, and not just engaging in name-calling and dung-flinging.
I'm not what anyone would call a "religious" person in any conventional sense, but I hope and PRAY that the next administration is an IMPROVEMENT over the current one.
Like, yeah...we couldn't POSSIBLY improve on this one, right?
right...

It borders on to much information for me.
I expect the people that run for office to be corrupt. I can live with bribes and political favors. As long as they have the general population of America's best interest in mind.
I don't want to know what farm animal they slept with. Just win the wars and put the crooks in jail.

I find the level of your character to be sad.
To think that your raising children is even sadder.

Not really. A good democrat candidate is Joe Biden. If he'll stop putting his foot in his mouth. And the republicans have Chuck Hagel. If he can get past the Conservative base he would be a good president.

Real character does matter to me too! We've got plenty of time, and it is time to set a new standard which we must stick to and not compromise!

I also find it sad that Bill Clinton's bad examples were blessed by the moral left - but now that others follow lesser versions of Clinton's bad examples ( nobody got raped or assaulted)- the moral left is all holier than thou . Give me a break .. Hypocrites lie under oath-but admissions of guilt are proof that no-one is perfect..not even the moral left . People hate the Pope - but now the left want a living saint in office ? Get off it .
