i don't get it!
i get the saying but i mean
when ever i have a chance to make a wish
it never comes true!!
so whats the point of that saying if your wishes never come true!?!

Maybe it should be changed to "be careful what you wish for, it's never gonna happen so you better make sure you wish for something you don't actually want".

Be careful what you wish for is an expression for if you wish something bad then you will get exactly what you said.

Never thought of that before! I feel like, hey if I am wishing for something, it's not going to be something that is not careful.....that's kinda weird!

It's like, if you wish for a girl to like you ... then she does, but it turns out she is needy and a stalker, that isn't good. So, be careful what you wish for, because you may get it.

you'd be surprised how often what you wish for comes through in a way you least expect.
You wish you don't have to work, then guess what you get laid off.
You wish some one would leave you alone & by gosh they die.
It's often very subtle
