Why do the settings go back to the same when I restart?

In Win98se I make changes to my colors and resilution by going to displays - settings but when I click on apply and restart my computer the setting stay the same as if I diddn't change anything. Can anyone please help.

It sounds like you have applied settings in which either your video card and or montior does not support.
First thing I would try is reinstalling video drivers.
Also some video cards will limit resolution and colour settings at certain refresh rates.
