Im in the 8th grade, and i want to try figuring out what i want to do after highschool. I want to do something creative, nothing boring where all you do is the same thing everytime.

I like writing, and im really good at it, ive thought about being a journalist for a newspaper or magazine.
I also like making layouts (colorful) for the computer, like myspace layouts. Ive thought about being a graphic designer but in that you make advertisements and you have to be patient for it too.
I have also thought of being a cook, because its fun.

The thing is i want to make as much money as i can in the job that would intrest me the most. i dont want to be really old either when i can actually do anything because i go to college for a long time.

I like helping people too, if that helps.

1) Yes, im not in highschool yet, but who said that only people who are going to be an adult in a year should decide what to do with their lives. my school is having us have sessions where college reps come to talk about them, we also can go to penta(2 yr. pre-grad. college edu.

2)I might not of worded everything right. but of course, i dont like boring things and doing the same thing a lot. but i also like routine. i can deal w/ being bored once in a while, but thats who i am, i want to have fun and make a profit at something i like, like everyone.

2) of course i know money doesnt grow on trees, so dont get the impression that i dont want to do anything and get payed for it, im not a homeless person who only excepts cash. i want to work, and get payed well, at something i really enjoy doing, finding out what that is, is why i came here.

4) Im only 14, but im not immature, if i were i wouldnt be trying to plan out my life right now a little. and im not whining im asking

None of the career options you've outlined will make you rich but you'll probably have a comfortable life. And you'll find when you're older that it's more important to have a job you enjoy.

If your school has a school newspaper, join it and try your hand at writing and designing. If it doesn't have a paper, see what you can do to start one.

As for learning what it's like to be a cook as a job, you'll probably have to wait a couple years until you're old enough to get a job at a restaurant. See if you can get a job as a prep cook. That's the person who cuts up the vegetables and does other preparation for the cooks and chefs. Even if you just get a job as a busser, you'll be able to see how a working kitchen works and learn if you'd enjoy doing it for a living.

No matter what you choose, remember that no job is perfect and everyone has things about their jobs that they hate. You have to be willing to do things you don't like in order to do the things you truly enjoy.

Good luck!

1 - you are NOT even in high school. You do not need to be thinking about this until grade 11 at least.

2 - you are not patient and you get bored easily doing the same thing over and over? Well you will not do very well in the real world if you get bored and cant do the same thing over and over. Most jobs are like that.

3 - Everyone wants money. Money does NOT grow on trees. You have to work to earn it.

4 - Grow up and stop whining.

Make a list of the things you either enjoy doing or are good at.
Take this list to your local library & look up "Careers & Employment". Plan on spending the day, so make sure you have lots of time...& a few bottles of water.
Make a list of the jobs that seem to "fit" with your strengths. There are books that will help you. If you are confused, just ask one of the librarians. They are trained & helpful.
