The main lesson to be learned from this project is the relationship between mass and volume. The amount of water being displaced by the volume and mass of the hull. That's why a 90,000 ton boat floats.

A great demonstration of this is that an 8 lb. bowling ball will float, but a 16 lb. ball will sink. This is because the volume is the same, but the 16 lb. ball has twice the mass as it's lighter brother. The mass of the 16 lb. ball is greater than an equal volume of sea water.
