Am I alone in the world, who thinks that the Girls today have it forced on them that they have to look a certain way to be accepted anymore?? (I guess some guys deal with this, Again, though Girls go through this more vocally.) Should the Magazine Models go into rehab for Eating disorders and come out and say they are not good role models for Our Children??? I asked this Question in P&S, but I wanted to run this In here also.

I agree! I have been battling with my weight since I was 13 years old. If I ate a cookie I would be devistated. In school, I wouldn't let my thighs touch the seat of the desk chair because I thought it made them look fat.
At 22, I starved myself by eating 400 calories a day. If I ate more than that, I would exersize for an hour plus to get rid of what I ate. I dropped to 108 lbs.
I have now gained the weight back after being pregnant and I couldn't feel more depressed! I am so sick of turing on television and seeing the "E" television station playing shows like "The 101 Skinniest Celebrities" etc. I can't take the pressure anymore. I just want to live my life!

You are not alone, and this isn't a recent phenomenon. This has been going on in civilization since Egyptian and Roman times. I definitely agree that models are not the best role models, even people like Tyra Banks who has a lot of problems with the modeling industry, because she still wears weaves, tons of make up, and her pictures are still brushed up.

No. You are not alone. Parents need to be more strict, but with love.
The pro. models are earning huge $$$
They should be in rehab, but don't expect that to happen anytime soon. It's the money. It's not the models who insist they're an influence. It's their image which is misunderstood by todays youth.

No, you are not alone. I being a girl myself do feel the pressure at times to look and act a certain way for sure. But I am glad I catch myself sometimes and come to realize that you dont have to be what everyone is telling you how you have to look/act.

Well, being a girl myself, I don't personally feel that I have to look a certain way to be accepted.. I mean, yea, it's all good to be skinny and pretty and all, but the way I see it is, if you can't accept me for the person that I am, then we don't need to be friends anyway. I am funny and easy to get along with, and that's oretty much all that matters

I think it depends on who they associate with. Some "high-society" people might force girls to have a certain look, but I don't think all girls have that problem.

Definitely. I have to look a certain way to be accepted, and so does everyone I know.

Sometimes you would have been alone if we lived alone on another planet. I'm obssessed with my size and yet i just find myself getting fatter and fatter... but then i think that i'm normal and that its the inward beauty that counts. i'd sit on the ridge of My planet and say "hey i ve given up on that diet thing!"
