depends where you are staying
cheapest place luxor and Aswan all prices Egyptian pounds and include tips etc exchange rate £1 English = 11 Egyptian
lunch in hotel inc soft drinks etc 60
dinner at night in hotel 80
dinner in town Egyptian restaurant 50
ticket to one attraction between 20 and 60
taxi to west bank 100-130
nescafe in hotel 15
you can sign for anything in the hotel and pay by credit card when you leave. But take care sometimes credit cards dont work out there. there are ATM's in many places. ATMs accept all credit cards and mastro cards. banks are often in the hotels and dont charge for changing money ( or didn't last time i was there)

for Cairo add 10% for sharm add more almost as expensive as England but depends on hotel and star rating. e.g. glass of wine in 4 star =35 in 5 star = 50

trip out with the tour guides e.g. kuoni etc. much more than finding a taxi and doing it your self balloon trip over west bank about £60-£80 depending on company.
taxi to a club at night 30
alcohol expensive between 25 and 50 for one drink
easy to make it cheaper in small restaurants out side the hotels there are many, take in duty free alcohol with you. buy water in a local shop not in the hotel. negotiate your own trips out. have fun i love it there

Depends on how long you plan to stay and what you plan to do. I generally like to start off bringing 1,000 LE (egyptian pounds) which is approximatley $175.00 USD. Most places will take Visa, so I try to use this as much as possible and save the cash for taxis and tips. If you plan to eat out every day a decent dinner at an average restaurant could run you anywhere up to 200 LE, so you could very quickly go through cash very fast. If you have an ATM card you will find that there are plenty of cash machines you can use to withdraw more cash from your account and then you don't have to worry about changing money. I think the prices in Egypt are about the same when you take the exchange rate into account.

first of all, the equivalent of 1.00 us dollar right now is about 5.70 egyptian pounds. it changes all the time. but in most restaurants the prices r written in egyptian pounds. but these places cost alot of money. stick with your little side stores under the buildings along main streets. u can buy delicious food made there. everything from seafood to cooked vegetables for less than 5.00 ep. not even 1.00 us dollar. im telling u it is cheap. but if any egyptian man knows u dont know the prices and u r alone without an arab man, he will kie to u about the prices of everything. and especially the taxis too. i had to learn the hard way. the hotels are expensive too, it is better to go to a hostel which will cost u about 7.00 to 20.00 a night and some very nice places centrally located. u can see these on www.bootsnall.com, and if u need any help u can reach my email at xxbigkisses@yahoo.com , i might be going back to egypt in october. i miss my social life with egyptian younger men. lol ok, i just feel so sorry for u if this is your first time. the first time is the hardest on people. i have traveled 4 times since 2003 and lived there a total of 15 hard months. happy traveling !

It depends on you and the tour company you are with.
if you are going on a cheap hotel and flight deal be prepared for a shock at the end of your stay we went with thompsons 210£ each only went on 2 tours they insisted it was not safe to go out on our own, we are an elderly couple and believe what people say, especially reps for the company,so for a week we eat and slept Itab hotel, our bill at the end 670£ each. on our last day there we decided that we would do our own thing others where, and we found out that all they told was lies, it was a lovely place we went to a lovely place on the west bank called myegypt wonderfull food not like the rubbish we had in the hotel, to cut a long story, yes its cheap enough in Egypt but be carefull. we are going back in december for Christmas we have made sure to get what we are paying for next time. the restaurant we went to is an english owned one and they do their own tours.look at the website myegypt.co.uk and you can see what we are going to see and do in dec, and we have already paid for our (2 weeks)flight back to Luxor ,

as gremlins tried to eplain, we went last year on our own stayed mainly in the hotel, and it was pricy for the first few days, and we went to the myegypt restaurant with our tour guide( stay clear of guides) the hotel insisted that we had to have one, while we where there at the restaurant we asked to see the hotel rooms, and there and then we went to get our bags from the hotel we where booked in, and stayed the last 2 days there in myegypt hotel, ok we had paid for the hotel and flight but we worked out that it was cheaper to stay in the west bank if only to save on taxi fares, we loved the place so so much it was like home from home, no hassle did what we wanted to do without paying for a guide, and we went back in february got back 2 weeks ago off their tour.wonderfull did excactly what they promised in their web site, so gremlins you are in for a real treat , so is it expensive in Egypt yes if you are not carefull stay away from touts guides any one who calls you friend, and do your own thing do not feel that you are in a strange country, its a fantastic place enjoy it just learn the word LA SHUKRAN no thank you and you will be fine,

It is really cheap but if your buying souvenirs be careful as they like to charge more to tourists. Take as much money as you can as you can always change it when you get back. Have a great time out there Egypt is a really nice country to visit.

You are very lucky, it's a fascinating country. It is not expensive, it is also fairly safe. Bargaining is expected so remember other people's culture's are different. When you ask if things are expensive remember a merchant is not trying to sell you something by being persistent, they are just bargaining. They are also very hospitable and if they offer you a cup of tea, there are no strings attached. I loved Egypt.
