Hi I was thinkin about bying a good lcd the one that allows a person with a weak sight to read the text without any problems. i ve had Samsung sm713bm 17" but that was a mistake . Fonts were really small nothing like on my 17"crt. My eyes started to hurt. Now a good freind told me to think about buying Samsung 206BW 20" Widescreen Display , here are the specs http://www.samsung.com/products/monitor/...

She told me that i will be able to use i like mine crt and that the fonts will be just as large as i want them to be without losing sharpnes. On my CRT I used 800x600 resolution. What do you think about that LCD?

Changing my resolution in my 17" LCD does not make nay sense cause the font even though becomes larger it eco,es blured at he same time.
I was told that only lcd with high resolution can help. I read a lot and type a lot and the size + clarity of the font is very important for me. i ve got a weak sight but it is not like i'm wearing huge eyeglasses still my eyes hurt when i read small font .

1. Changing font size applies only to the character size of icon names and menu. It doesn't effect to the size of characters in web page or any documents, which you want to see.
2. Also using some software magnifier is temporary expedient.
3. Since your eyes are comfortable with 800x600, your comfortable pixel pitch is 0.360mm (on 15" CRT) or 0.410mm (on 17" CRT).
4. See http://www.guipedia.net/guidewiki/Pixel_Pitch
for the pixel pitch you want.
5. Currently the largest pixel pitch is 0.303mm (27" LCD, 1920x1200) but it's too expensive.
6. The next largest pixel pitch is 0.297mm (15" LCD, 1024x768). See 15" LCD monitor in your local store and if it's comfortable to your eyes, buy it.
7. Otherwise you had better to buy LCD TV instead of LCD monitor. Or keep using CRT monitor.

* Here the key word is "Pixel Pitch", nothing else.

Samsung 206BW would be the worst possible choice. Screen size is 1680 x 1050 at 0.258 x 0.258 mm pixel size. A 17 inch non-WS monitor is 1280 x 1024 at 0.264 mm. Better than this is 19 inch, also 1280 x 1024, but 0.294 mm. The latter is similar to a 15 inch LCD at 1024 x 768 where the viewing area is similar to a 17 inch CRT.

You should look at non-WS 20 inch at 1600 x 1200 and 0.25 mm. Now, if this works at 800 x 600, effective pixel size will be 0.5 mm.

You can change the font size displayed on your monitor, this may save you some dollars, if you haven't already tried it.

To change font size with windows XP:

Right click your mouse on the desktop screen.
Go down to "properties"
Go to the "APPEARANCE" tab
Near the bottom of this window you will see "Font Size"
Click the little down arrow at the right and select font size that best suites your needs.

Within Windows, in the control panel, you can alter the font sizes. You don't have purchase a particular type of monitor.

Go to Programs, Accessories, point to Accessibility, and then click Utility Manager. There is a magnifier you can use on any monitor. Have a 10 min break every half hour.
