Books. Books are great for all ages, not only are they entertaining, they can also enrich the mind. you can go to you local book store and ask an employee there what they think would be appropriate for the child at hand.

A 10 year old usually has some pretty good ideas about what they'd like as a birthday present. To not disappoint, why not ask the child?

Go for something unique, something that will benefit from in the long run. Something that'll spark a new hobby/interest or sport would be cool.
Help them start a collection of baseball cards or football cards.
A guitar or keyboard would be cool.
A kid's cookbook.
A trampoline, basketball hoop, soccer ball, etc would be good exercise, and they could use with friends.

Well It would help if I knew what he/she were like. GIRL-Barbie,Bratz doll, money,hair accessories, cute & stylish clothes(ex-Old Navy), um...cute pens for skool.
Boys-Money,action figures,cute clothes, Pokemon,yugioh, or maybe a toy.
