1024 MB of what? R.A.M or disk space? please make it clear
1024 MB of ram is enough to use windows vista operating system.....but u need a good graphics card to run windows vista.
the graphics card should have a memory of atleast 256 MB...or else windows vista wont run smoothly in your computer.

- 1 GB of system memory
- 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

- Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
- 32 bits per pixel

I think that's the minimum requirement. I haven't used Vista yet, so I would say sure.
But I have used it at work on a few PCs for a couple of seconds and would also say no. If you're going to be doing hardcore elements like video and movies, it might not be. Vista is dedicated to slowing down your computer because of the eye candy it provides. A.K.A. You just paid a pretty price for XP with a facelift. Plus a few other things, like the ever-so-mentioned UAC that pisses everyone off.

Yeah but it would run a lot smoother and nicer with 2gb (2048)
The main thing Windows Vista Premium really requires most is 256mb of video memory.

The recommended amount of RAM for Vista to work properly is 512. Since Vista is so multimedia rich however and since your computer is capable of doing so much more now, including better gaming, Internet, and movies....it's recommended that you have at least a GIG or more of memory. A GIG is 1000MB. You are looking good but don't be afraid to add more if you like gaming.

1gb (1024mb) is really minimum. 2gb is recommended. Also a fast cpu and a good directx 9 video card or better.
I would strongly suggest staying with Win XP for now. There is NO advantage getting vista. Just because it's new, doesn't mean it's better.

yes it is enough, but keep in mind that it is the minimum requirement. This means that you should definitely be open to adding more memory to make it perform better than the minimum. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/systemrequirements.mspx
