Yes there are still hedgehogs. They are not extinct. If you used to see them near your house and don't anymore, there may have been construction nearby and they relocated. Same thing happened with the Wild Turkey's by my house.

There are some hedgehogs left. It's just a matter of being in the right environment. The last time I saw a hedgehog in London was about 5 or 6 years ago perhaps. They're a very rare sight in London nowadays. In fact, it's the same with the Sparrow. As a child, they were a very common sight to me. I've lived in London my whole life & have seen all sorts. Foxes, however, are almost as common as the common pigeon. The hedgehog is adapted primarily for woodland habitats. In fact, your most likely chance of seeing one, would be in the rural parts of Europe. The Great Bustard is the heaviest bird known to be indigenous to the British Isles. However, it was virtually driven to extinction in the U.K. & many other individuals left for other parts of the world. Schemes to reintroduce the the bird to it's native habitat have so far, been unsuccessful. But just 3 or 4 years ago, it was revealed on the news that the birds were making a comeback. It was due to climate change & it seems that alot of animals are moving to different parts of the world, adapting themselves, to a new variety of environments. In fact, if you look in a garden or a park, you're likely to see a Grey Squirrel. They're native to North America & were introduced to the U.K. for some peculiar reason. But prior to their arrival, the Red Squirrel was a common sight. The last time I can recall to seeing a Red Squirrel was about 20 years ago, when I was only 4 years old. It was in Acton Park, in West London & the rodent went running up a tree. The image is burned into my mind & I won't ever forget seeing the animal. But when you come to think of it, alot of animals are going extinct. But the small ones, such as Sparrows, Squirrels & Hedgehogs, are just moving from place to place. In a nutshell, it's like Darwin's Finches. The Finches had lived on the Galapagos islands in the Pacific, & by spreading to different islands, they adapted to a variety of environments & over time, they became different species. When an animal species distributes itself around different environments, it can gradually give rise to other new species. It's a way for Evolution to work all the time. Although, at times, it can occur over a matter of decades, otherwise, over a period of several thousand years.

There sure are, I have a family of them in my garden, every year i see them running across the garden with their babies following, unfortunately an adult must of slipped into my pond while having a drink and in the morning it was still treading water! picked him out, warmed him up, gave him some cat food and low and behold within half and hour he had scuttled off under the bushes, he was fine!!! Needless to say I covered the pond and put water out in a bowl! Didn!t know that hedgehogs could swim.

Yes, hedgehogs are still around but are, in fact, primarily nocturnal animals. If you see a hedgehog in the daytime, chances are it is either sick or hungry.

Certainly are. Rescued one last week, it had been run over. Sad to say it died though. A warm blanket and some cat food just wasn't enough!
But I suppose it's where you are though. More in the countryside area's obviously.
