My mom is EXACTLY like the example, Sarah, who washes her hands too much! I'm positive she has OCD, because she's always been washing her hands or a towel for up to 5 hours!!! She's so obsessed that she hardly ever comes out to eat lunch or dinner, and would rather eat cereal by herself. And when someone asks her to get out of the restroom, she gets out, then washes in the kitchen or the second bathroom!

I don't know if I should tell her or not..or tell anyone. I certainly do not want to over-drug her, or take her to a psychiatrist/counselor, etc, because I'm Christian and don't do that stuff. Any advice?

Thanks for all who answered. But those who are defending psychologists, I asked for ANSWERS, not questions!

Obsessional symptoms are recognized as coming from subjects own mind. Common themes include repeated thoughts of becoming aggressive or fears of contamination. These thoughts are often followed by rituals which are patterns of behavior developed to relieve the anxiety generated by the original obsession. The rituals involve repeated checking, hand washing or changing the clothes. The condition tends to follow a relapsing course.

Homeopathy does offer treatment for OCD. But the treatment is not very easy (compared to many other mood disorders) and a monitoring period of many years is required. While treating OCD, 'perseverance' is the keyword, both for the doctor and the patient. It takes long time to obtain long-term benefits. The treatment method remains consistent with the general homeopathic approach towards patient, disease, and cure.

Some of the medicines commonly indicated in this condition are lachesis, acid-nitricum, anacardium, natrum-mur, arsenic-alb, thuja, sabadilla, stannum, medorrhinum etc.

Maybe try looking up herbal things that can help. Talk to her and tell her youre worried. Look at options together. I don't recomend psychologists. I think they're just there to take your money and blame all your problems on your parents cuz it can't be your fault because your the one paying. Haha Maybe see a doctor, her chemicals could need balancing.

What is wrong with going to a counselour being a Christian?
There is nothing wrong with going to someone professional for help. Psychologists will not give you drugs, and maybe your mom needs to resolve some issues. It's just talking.

Try Hypnotherapy! It works wonders and works fast!
Here is how it cured me in my adulthood. (But don't forget to consult a professional)
"I am going to count one to ten. With each successive number i shall get into hypnotic trance and on the count of 10 I shall be completely in the trance. I shall give myself suggestions and then again count 10 to come out of the trance. i shall be able to remember my suggestions and follow them"
Then start counting ten with eyes closed.
After you have counted ten give suggestions that the Obsessive compulsive thoughts are wrong and have no meaning in real life. Suggest yourself that you shall refrain from following this illogical behavior.
Again auto-suggest that you shall remember these auto-instructions and put them into practice.
Then give a suggestion that you are going to count ten and at the count of ten you will get up from the trance.
Then start counting ten. After you have conted 10 open your eyes.
Do it three times a day for a reasonable period.

In order to get your mom help, you HAVE to take her to a psychiatrist. She won't get better unless you do.

She needs medication and therapy. It's the only thing that works.

Being a "Christian" has nothing to do with it. Jesus cannot help her unless YOU put things in action to help her.

My brother has OCD and he has been helped a lot. My family is Christian. Get with the program, girl.
