Ive been upgrading my friends PC by adding a little more ram and adding a dvd drive also (it used to just have a cd burner). Is there anywhere i can get instructions on wiring in the new drive as i'm having some trouble getting it to work as the computer says second slave drive incompatible. I must have wired it up slightly wrong. Any help is most welcome.

most p.c,s can have 2 x hard drives(primary master/primary slave) and 2 x optical drives(secondary master/secondary slave)
these go into ide1/ide2 on your motherbaord, unless your hard drives a s.a.t.a(serial a.t.a)
you need to first go into set up(press delete at start up) and go into cmos, there you need to make sure all your ide drives are set to "auto",this will automatically configure your hard and optical drives to work on your p.c,instead of going through the impossible task of manually configuring each drive one by one
then make sure each drives jumpers are corrrectly set, note:each manufacturer has different jumper settings so check the manufacturers literature or check the label on the drive
also check that the 5v molex power cable is correctly fitted and working properly, and that the ide ribbons are correctly fitted and functioning properly(note:check that the plastic connectors on the ide ribbons are not broken as this can stop the drives from working and can also affect the mouse and keyboard sometimes
another reason for hardware not functioning correctly is a under powerful p.s.u,adding too much hardware to a under rated p.c will cause hardware malfunctioning,a average p.c with 2 x hdd and 2 x dvd should have at least a 350w p.s u
is the light on the drives flashing when you boot it up,if so theres power getting through,if it dosent show in "my computer"then check the ide cable or replace it
also go to control panel>system properties>hardware>device manager>then check the list to see if your dvd drive is there,if it is then remove it and restart the p.c to force a "found new hardware" option, this will re-install the dvd drive and all of its appropriate driver?firmware
i hope this has helped
good luck

You have to set one as master the other as slave look on the back there are little pins which you move to get the correct connections.
