Give it some time. About 12-15 years ago it was perfectly normal for a straight man to have some sexuality in his wardrobe and wear tight jeans or spandex shorts. People have selective memories but many women digged it.
Now it's only okay for a guy to wear spandex shorts to the gym. And plenty of of people, insecure or just hating to see a man's body, don't like that either.
Give it some time. Fashions repeat. Women are wearing spandex everywhere now. Guys will probably have to follow at some point, because what's popular for men really can't get any baggier or dis-functional without being ridiculous.

I only wear spandex for volleyball. Are you playing volleyball in gym? Because that would explain why the girls are wearing them. Otherwise the girls just want to look good. Guys look gay in spandex that is why they don't wear them. Too tight. It is in style right now for guys to wear more loose fitting clothing, and it is in style for girls to wear tight clothing, which includes spandex.

do you mean under your soffes? if you do then its so boys can't see up your shorts... but if you all just enjoy wearing spandex then you're freaks
