Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and the Rubik's Cube was a new invention, I learned that there are really only 3 'trick' moves after watch frieds who were trying to learn from the multitude of books that were out at the time.

Eventually, I mastered the 4x4x4 and the 5x5x5 cubes as well as Alexander's Star (my person favorite-though you don't see them anymore)

A couple times, the first time I used a book though. It gave sequences for moving one particular square at a time while leaving the rest in place. After that though I understood the process and could do it on my own.

I have solved it once or twice but I have torn them into pieces and put them back together lots of times

yes, but i had to throw it away when I was done. They should include something in the instructions that warns you not to use supper glue to put it back together!

once when i was a kid...i solved it by accident.

as an adult, i can try for hours before getting it right...strange how that works.
