We cannot afford our mortgage and we have just applied to council for house as we cannot afford private rent in our area as more then our mortgage. I have 2 small children and want to sell house rather then be evicted we will still get council house or would it be better to get evicted? We live in swale area and scared of being on the streets as council houses like gold dust any advice?

I would like to say me and my husband have worked all our lives and never claimed any benefits. We where young and stupid and got took for a ride with finacial advise as we was put on interest only mortgage and ISA made on a few hundred pounds in 7 years. I've always worked through both pregnancy and now work nights so I see my children 18 hours a day I work now are dreams are turning to dust and several people want to critize me for trying to house my kids, the computer and internet borrowed by the way if I could afford it I wouldn't be in arrears with mortgage!

If we sell our house no money left over from sale as maxed out trying to survive and not go to council.

Your local authority has a duty to house you.
Though not necessarily in council run housing.
It goes without saying that will be in the queue behind a thousand unemployed muslims that have never contributed.

I think not.If i was you i would sale your house then move because as long as you have money the council will expect you to rent private and they will say that you made your self homeless so they will not house you.You have to be homeless living in a car and they still won't help you, sorry not much help you really have to lay it on tell a few porkies to get any help but if you move to new area to get work you get more points also if you can't live together but make sure you trust each other if you live apart just to get more points as sometimes it can damage your relationship. Best go to the citizens advice.Good luck

It's ridiculous isn't it, You can't keep up with your mortgage payments, So your liable to get evicted. But if you live in a council house and can't keep up with your rent, because you have lost your job you will get rent allowance!!
If you do sell your house, you are making yourself deliberately homeless and the council are not obliged to house you. (Although it has been done on a few occasions. It's who you know!) You could become Muslim, or if you are black, say you've just got off a banana boat!

Councils are moving away from Council Owned accomodation, now its more a case of Housing associations, and you can actually apply to them directly. Something else to consider is selling your house to a housing association and renting it back. There are also several private companies out there that will offer this, they can even stop the repo men before things get nasty. Have a look in the back of the property section of your local paper in the property wanted section, also in Exchange and Mart and Loot if you can get that were you are

Don't make yourself voluntarily homeless because you'll get nothing from the council. The council DO NOT have a duty to rehouse you, sorry! Also don't go in to private as a stop gap because you'll never get a council property. Keep on to them and try to make a friend at the council. And for god sake be nice as the council don't like aggression. Good luck.

Marlon is an idiot..
You probably won't be entitled to council housing as if you sell your house ... you will be seen as having enough money to rent privately ...
You have a much better chance if evicted ,... but what a waste

i wager your no longer an asylum seeker, in a minority team, of an Islamic extremist, so no longer a lot threat i'm afraid. As for being a unmarried mom with 2 babies, properly there are such truly some unmarried father and mom available, that this wont help you. The interior sight authorities will likely placed you into short-term lodging, besides the undeniable fact that it truly is the perfect you are able to wish for contained in the foreseeable destiny.

all depends on how much cash you get from you're house they could tell you to buy a small flat. if they think you got evicted on purpose they can say you became intentionally homeless and pass you over to social services who will find you accomodation in the private sector. it may sound crazy but if you and your partner become unemployed they will help you a lot more and quicker, either way be carefull and good luck.

Yes by all means sell your house pocket the proceeds. No doubt some sucker will sort you out rather than you handle the problem
and get it sorted YOURSELF.I suppose this is another of the Governments problems the mortgage repayments too high.
Whatever happened to self respect self resilience when people of not too long ago sorted their own mess out ? and became better people for it. Mind you no backbone today it's alway's someone else's fault
