I'd be giving up:
Dirk Nowitzki
Josh Howard
and
Ervin Santana...

I'd be getting:
David West
Ricky Davis
and
Johan Santana

right now, I'm in 2nd place (out of 8) in my basketball league and obviously baseball has not started...
what should I do?

Josh Howard / David West = Wash

So the trade proposer is saying this to you...

Dirk = Johan ( which is true IF you're talking about avg. draft position in their respective sport, BUT Johan is THE BEST at his position as to where Dirk is among a group of 4 or so at his, including KG, Amare & Duncan.)

Ervin Santana = Ricky Davis? ( Personally i think Ricky Davis isn't worth a damn thing.. i never found it necessary to own him in any of my 8 teams, all of which i'm ranked 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Ervin Santana however is worth owning in a 5+ SP league.)

Final decision is still yours, but there's my insight.

hell no. sure j. santana is great but the drop off value of dirk+howard to west/davis is far more bigger than the drop off from ervin to johan. dont do it. there are tons of good pitchers you can get in late rounds. guys like aj burnett, schmidt, zito, cole hamels, mussina, matt cain, randy johnson, rich harden, the list goes on and on.

you should make the trade. in fact, there is no way you could turn this deal down. santana is the best pitcher in the game. plus, you will have him for the entire season.
