At a decent compression rate you should get one film on a 1GB file in MP4 format.
If you compress it a lot you might get 2 films on, but the quality would probably be too poor to watch.

to be watchable, id say you could compress a dvd rip down to about 500mb. so that would leave space for two films.
most films you can download from bit torrent work out at about 700mb for a decent quality film. you can afford to lose a good chunk of the quality before it gets unwatchable.
for good quality playback, id stick with one film taking up as much space as possible,

It depends on quality of film. If its compressed dramatically, you could maybe get one film on 1gb. You would'nt like the result though.

A film uses between 3 and 5 gbs so work it out for yourself.

well if you're talking full length films then i doubt you could fit any on 1gb, you may need 2gb or 4gb if they do them. shorter films, like 1 hour or less, should fit.
