I recently stopped using it, because I was paying out more than I was actually selling.
Wondering if I am the only one who thinks there isn't much of a variety there anymore.
There used to be thousands of items in a search. Now there is anywhere from 6 to a few hundred.

No, I am like you, the fees started eating any money I was making from selling on there. I was actually losing money because of the fees. I closed my store, and now I still rarely list anything for auction.

I think it's because Ebay has raised its fees so less people are buying & selling on there as a result.

Costs went up - people moved out for the same reason you did.

One of the ways of making money on ebay is to find a niche and keep selling to it - that's why you keep seeing same ol' same ol'

on the success of ebay more and more e-auction sites are emerging - some don't charge listing fees so they are more attractive
