"I am a Microsoft Beta Tester and I have used all Vista Beta versions as well as final release and all I have to say is dont waste your time on it right now...it is a bit complicated from some aspects...from some aspects i say it again....and most of the software are not compatible with vista yet....and other part is if you dont have a vista compatible PC or even if you have one....it comsumes a lot of memory....I have 2 GB of memory and it consumed about 600 MB's sitting Idle...which should give you a pretty good idea about vista right now...and there are still bugs with its USB drivers....so I would recommend you to stick with XP or if you wanna get Vista better wait for atleast 1 year or so and let vista set it fields".... = http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApzUlDU1_HfbUI69v6cEBlRz7hR.?qid=20070219084347AAYL3Vp

Microsoft is now providing five years of "mainstream" support, plus five years of "extended support" for XP Media Center and XP Home Edition. Previously, Microsoft provided no extended support for the consumer versions of its XP operating system.
Consequently, consumer versions of XP are now covered under mainstream support through April 2009, and under extended support through April 2014."

All retail versions of Vista, including upgrades, use the same DVD with a different label. You can boot to an upgrade DVD without a problem, because there is no physical difference between the retail disc and the upgrade disc. If you are trying to install the "30-day trial" of Vista, you should do so from booting, not within Windows. (This will also make sure the computer does a clean format. Do not attempt to "upgrade" or you will have problems). If you can't boot to the DVD, go into BIOS and change the boot order so your DVD-ROM is first. That should take care of it.

It should be renamed Vista "downgrade" because Vista is a downgrade from everything. It is a downgrade from XP because things work on XP but do not on Vista. It is a major downgrade from open source at www.kubuntu.org

I agree with MasterJ. Unless your computer is 2 years or NEWER don't even think about upgrading to VISTA!
