totally LOTR. let's compare the two. lotr was cutting edge-for it's time, and very popular. same can be said for star wars. but lotr was filmed all at the same time, which is a lot gutsier than what star wars did. which was, wait more than 20 years to finish the series, dumb down the story to make it more marketable and sell and resell every version and combination possible. personally, i vote for lotr. ;)

LOTR, hands down. I've felt with the new Star Wars that the acting was wooden and didn't really make you feel anything for the characters.

LOTR is just so sweeping and expansive that I think Jackson did a wonderful job of containing the story and keeping us involved with the characters.

LOTR was even better directed than the first three Star Wars movies.

The New Star Wars, just the story line and the special effects I have to say George Lucas did wonderfully. LOTR was very boring.

Star Wars has better directing if you're talking about the 3 released recently.

Well one is Sci-Fi, and the other is Fantasy, so you can't really compare the Epicness of Directing, but they both pretty much Pwn their own fields of Film.
