Income taxes do not go to pay for anything, not schools, not roads, not healthcare. Income taxes go to pay the debt of the country.

You are right. Why do we indeed? I wish I'd known more about "the real American Government" a long time ago.

Like so many other aspects of American laws, the Consitution, Bill of Rights, and other Amendments, the spirit of income taxes has been twisted up so badly over the years that it no longer resembles what it was intended for. You may be morally and legally right to protest this by refusing to pay, but unfortunately the government pig is too hungry. They'll have yourass in jail, Constitution be damned.

The above references to the 16th Amendment and Title 26 are correct.

As far as income taxes only paying the national debt:

32% goes to human resources (which includes health, education)
12% to general government (which includes payment on the debt)
5% to physical resources (which includes transportation, commerce, Army corps of engineers, etc.)
20% to past military
31% to current military

Actually, Americans are required to pay income tax. Read Title 26 of the US Code, passed by Congress. Specifically 26 USC 7203.

Whether we should have to pay or not is a different issue. And if we can get Congress to change the laws so we don't have to pay, that'd be great. But until then, it is the current law.

This is the opposite of the freeport doctrine.
Truth doesn't matter if the Feds can still send you to jail for not paying.
