algebra. His book was called "Hisãb al-jabr w'al-muqãbala" in Arabic. The Latin translation by Robert of Chester in 1140 AD was "Liber algebrae et almucabal."

I found several sites with this information, however the ones I posted are, in my opinion, the best.

Algebra, which comes from the Arabic word "Al-Jabr", which means "balancinig". Check out wikipedia if you want more info. Hope this helps!
