I really want a snake, and have for awhile. My mom is afraid of them, but I'd really like one. What is the calmest breed of snake so I could hold it and not be scared of it also.

I don't really care about size, more about the temperment. Something that will crawl on my arm or not bite me when I reach in to get him to take him out.

If you're looking for guarantees of not being bitten, you better go with a rubber snake, but if you're willing to risk a VERY rare, mild bite, you can't go wrong with a corn snake, king or milk snake. They are beautifully colored, have mild manners usually, feed well & easily & don't get too large, but are big enough for you to feel their strength as they coil around your arm. Ball pythons also are popular with many, but they can be picky eaters & have more extreme requirements as to their living conditions. All of these are good snakes to have around & you'd do well with any of them as long as you do your homework & are prepared to care for these creatures for several years.

I found Corn snakes, Rat snakes, and Milk snakes to be easy to handle first time snakes, They are common, not very expensive, calmer, and dont seem to have as many requirements other breeds do. They are hardy and can live in a wide range of substrates, enviroments, and temperatures. You can generally find really small babies to start with with this breed, rarer or more exotics are harder to find and more expensive sometimes.

I'd definitely say a corn snake. They're really mellow, only need to eat once a week, and they live for about twenty years. they're awesome for reptile beginners. My baby, Artemis, is an albino corn snake and he's sweet as sugar!

Go with something small that you wont even feel the pressure much if it "constricts" around your wrists in affection.
