If you were both 18 you didn't need anyone's permission. If you weren't both 18, I don't think you could have gotten the license. You DID get a license first, right? You can't just 'sneak off' and get married without going to the courthouse for a license first, and that's not within walking distance of any of the wedding chapels. If you didn't get a license, you're not really married so you don't have anything to worry about.

I'm assuming that the Grandfather was actually the witness ... not the consentor. You should probably rethink what actually happened that night considering you both were of legal age (and if you weren't then you wouldn't have been married since the White Chapel is a fairly reputable establishment ... if you can call a chapel in Vegas reputable that is).

The only issue now is that you two are legally bound, so in the eyes of the law your taxes and credit are combined and now you get to be adults not children anymore. That means you have to tell your parents since you are no longer a dependent and they can't claim you this year on their taxes nor can your husbands parents. Welcome to the real world, sorry you didn't think it through better. Now get a job and forget college because you won't be able to afford it since you are still high schoolers ... unless your in-laws are rich.

I would say that you did based on the fact that you knew your father n law was drunk and you took advantage of him under false pretenses. This really should call for an annullment. you did break the law and this also could constitute a felony depending on what state you are in. Now if you do not reveal who you or your grandfather is, seems like you made a clean get a way providing the other parts of family do not get involved. Futhermore the question is do your grandfather know he did this? Some drunkards do remembers some things and he contst that he did and knowingly what he did then no you did not break the law.

There were no laws broken...but there could be a loop hole. You might not be legally married. However, the only time that would be an issue is if you want a divoce. It would make the divorce a lot quicker and faster because it would be an annulment on the basis that the marriage wasn't legal to begin with. If you guys want to be together still....you're both over 18 now, go to your local Justice of the Peace and get married again. Then you know for sure it's legal.

I have never heard of anyone prosecuted for getting married underage, but understand that your marriage probably isn't considered legal. If your family or his actually do find out they would probably just tell you the same thing. I don't think his grandfather's signature would even be valid unless he is your bf legal guardian. You might have done this to satisfy yourselves into thinking it will secure you into a lifetime commitment, but the only way you will have a legal union is to do it officially with no signatures required by anyone else. Just keep in mind that you will have a 95% chance of failure in your lifetime commitment due to your ages, the way you have gone about this to begin with, your inexperience in handling life's problems, and that neither of you have had enough of a single life yet to determine whether you have chosen the right perfect mate. You will find all of this out in good time. Good Luck.

If you were both 18, why would you need his grandfather to give permission? If you are both legal adults, you did nothing illegal by getting married. Perhaps you should go back to highschool and learn some common sense before you do something stupid and drastic again! God forbid you get pregnant!

I'm confused, aren't you 18? Why did you need permission. Plus, you just sneaked out once? You would have to get a marriage license first. Did you walk there too? Something is fishy with the story.

If its true, how would you break the law? Nothing you did was illegal.

He didn't need anyone to sign. If you were 18 then, neither did you. If you were still 17, then HIS grandfather couldn't legally sign for it as YOU were teh minor. The person conducting the ceremony was required to ask you to produce proof of age. So, even if you weren;t 18, it was teh minister/JP doing ceremony that was in the wrong legally.

age of consent is 18 or less.. so you should be fine? maybe are you sure that was a permission letter? in some states you have to have a witness and he probably just had to sign that form along with the two of you, just to prove that the marriage did take place

You shouldn't need his permission as you are both of age, however, getting him drunk in order to sign a legal document sounds like trouble. At the very least, it was immoral and dangerous. Congratulations on your nuptials.
