Yes this is a question...
What are you asking, is he? will he be?
Does it matter that he's black, in what way will that make anything different to a white president? When things don't go the right way after he's been made president, white people will be blamed anyway

As a Brit looking at this issue from experience we can say this people said no woman would ever be our PM but the right one came along Margaret Thatcher and has gone down as one of the greatest PMs ever and respected world leader, Would UK ever have a black PM yes if the right guy come forward someone like the Presidential parts the actor Morgan Freeman plays, but for America neither of your two wanna bes cut the mustard.
Funny thing is the best President since the war years was by far Ronald Reagan and he will go down in history as the man who ended/won the cold war with Thatcher.
President Bush on the whole is not a bad President but he is not of this time America needs a new guy in the White House from this era that can gather the free world together and stand firm and make the policy desisions that will win the war on terror and move the world forward to a happier era but I do not see one out there yet.

I don't think it matters if the USA have a black or female president it matters that they can whoever they are stand up to the world and for the world, the status of being the worlds most powerful leader should not be forgotten because of novelty, yes it would be nice if the nation of equals does not get hoodwinked because it would be nice to break tradition but rather vote for the best person to do the job, you already made the mistake of voting for that eejit George W. Bush twice, so the next president be it someone other than osama or hilary they are going to have to be the cleaning lady and work twice as hard to clean up usa and the mistakes the current president has made worldwide.

America's 1st black president is not Al Sharpton! It's Bill Clinton to some but still could be Obama for others!

America has a short attention span and Obama is peaking too soon. It isn't an issue of race with Obama, it is an issue of competence. Unfortunately the vast American public is not comfortable getting out the "white guy" mold when it comes to a leader. Neither Obama or Hillary will be president. Watch for a dark horse candidate from the GOP who will be moderate and charismatic - he will be the winner.

I feel the need to paraphrase MLK here....for me, it's not the color of their skin, but the content of their character. I want a president who will do the right thing for America. Obama seems too focused on being the 1st black president.

Exactly what is your question?
Have we had 1? No.
Should we have 1? If & only if a black candidate is the best 1 available.
Will we elect 1 in 2008? I don't know but my guess is that we won't.

I am not opposed to a black president, or a woman for that matter. I haven't done enough research on Obama to know whether or not I would vote for him.
