Hi. Since this question is in 'Monitors' that is what I'll describe.
Old technology - CRT. Large, heavy, uses lots of power, subject to screen burn in. Color rendition may be better but sharpness may not.

New technology - LCD. Shallower, much lighter, uses about 1/3rd the power, screen burn in much less of a problem. Color rendition can be less accurate but at native resolution the picture is very sharp with no geometric distortion. Sometimes has a problem with dead or stuck pixels.
