#4. The top four players are Pujols, Howard, Reyes, and Santana. At number 4, you are guaranteed to get one of them and not the crappiest waiver priority/even round picks.

The worst pick is the next to last one. You have almost the worst pick in the first round, you can't be sure you'll get your next choice (if you had the last pick, you would), and you don't get top waiver priority.

Also, ignore pitching for the first several rounds. The "true aces" (Santana, Carpenter, Oswalt, Peavy, Halladay), are really good pitchers, but they should be avoided, because pitching is unpredictable. They will probably be fine, but if you draft two or three guys from that next tier down (Glavine, Hudson, Tigers starters, cliff lee, etc.), and a bunch of young and new guys (Igawa, matsuzaka, wainwright, cole hamels, sowers, John Maine, etc.), you will be able to put together a decent pitching staff. This is much easier to do than trying to cobble together a lineup from young and second tier guys that will compete with the big guns like Pujols, Howard, Soriano, Reyes, Big Papi, and the other master blasters. In the first three rounds you need 3 25 homer, 100 RBI guys (or if you can't, get as close as you can, and make sure the dude has some other talents, like steals or runs scored or average.) Also, get these guys over .300 BA. Pitchers are a dime a dozen on the waiver wire, there will only be about one good bat available before you have to trade away.

#4. There are four good players - Pujols, Reyes, Soriano, and Santana. At #4, you are guaranteed to get one of those 4. You also will have a decent pick in the rest of the rounds, and you won't get a bad waiver priority. I like the above guy who said #4's answer except that Howard is not anywhere close to this 4. Howard is probably #16 on my board - he's a prime suspect for a letdown.

First round pick is over rated - everyone gets a good player in the first round. Second and third round is where teams are made. Rounds 6-9 are where championships are won - and understanding the players you draft and your scoring format are the most important things in fantasy. One piece of advice, forget the players names - they are all just numbers, don't dwell on not getting your favorites or favorite team.
What ever your first round pick, that is where you start building your team and you have to know what kind of team you are building based on your first pick. It is the single foundation on which you build, so never take a pitcher in the first round. Even Johan, who dominates the position, can only help you once a week and even then he only plays 34 games a year - take a player that gives you 162 games of good stats to start building your team. Taking a pitcher first doesn't guarantee you the best pitching staff, but taking Pujols guarantees you the best 1B and player in fantasy - just like taking Utley gives the advantage at 2B. So why take a guy that only contributes to a little over 10% of your total production at one postion.

I would pick up a player to start off instead of a pitcher. The player that will get you the most fantasy points this year in my opinion will be Albert Pujols. If you want to go with a pitcher, take Justin Verlander or Johan Santana. Both get a lot of wins and a lot of strike outs. Good luck in your leauge.

If your league drafts 1-12 12-1 then the I've always felt the last pick is the best.......If your league drafts 1-12 1-12 then the 1st pick is the best.

the top picks are all around equal with pujols santana and howard at the top, but im tellin u about an extremely good 3rd round pick. in all my leagues hanley ramirez of the marlins goes in the third round.most people underestimate him. if u look at his stats hes almost as good as reyes who goes on the 3rd 4th or 5th pick. getting him in the 3rd round his the biggest steal you are going to get.hes even more mature now so look for his rookie of the year numbers last year to increase.
