How many people feel lonely most of the time? How many people suffer from chronic loneliness?

Is there research giving percentages? What are the important factors?

I also feel lonely very often. I have social anxiety and find it difficuilt to meet people (actually just to go outside). I would love having more socials contacts, yet there are probably many people around just like me.

______ ______ _____"Isn't it ironic?"

yes - ironic... there are somany people in this world that are afraid of being judged by others, that they dont want the pressure of meeting new people. Its a very scary and very real thing, because we can not survive without eachother.

Isnt it funny how we are all wondering what the other perons is thinking about us... when they arent really thinking anything about us at all.. they are wondering what WE are thinking about THEM...

I know nothing of the research or percentages about "feeling lonely", But I do feel lonely sometimes. Even though I know I have great family and friends, there are just times that I feel so alone.
I think one of the factors for me was having to struggle through the first 20 years of my life. then spending another 10 years trying to recover.. I sometimes don't feel like people understand me or sometimes that they just can't relate. I had to teach myself how to make friends because it didn't come naturally to me, but eventually it became so easy to do.
I think one of the most important things to do when you feel alone, is to walk outside, and take a walk down the street. Say "good morning" to a stranger. when your in a grocery store, give a compliment to someone working there. These are small things you can do to teach yourself slowly to engage in conversation with people. Next thing you know, it will become second nature too you and you will have broken out of that shell. You will meet new people and be more open to invite new friends into your life.
All things take time, but there are ways to help yourself, you just have to get out there and do it.

Hello !

You know when people are younger...they have duties ( school, better social life...etc)...and don't think about lonliness.

However, in their 20 people true to regoncize themselves, and start to like and dislike things, people...so we are not that childish to protect the frienship with others...cuz we see things differently.

People are not the way you think they are and start to follow your journey without friend of high school.

To meet new people it is not an easy thing. Esecially at this age, cuz you are trying to find yourself and yet to identify yourself with the others. But you see that you are different and you get easily annoyed from people who make marathonic conversations talking with sentences that begin me, me....

and then there is a struggle between identifying yourself...and not reaching the point of the others...they seem desperate for attention...and you are not capable hearing them.

In that phase starts gradually chronical depression. And you are on the ground but you miss that social life that you had once.

However there is a cure. First of all try to find yourself...what your beliefs are for a certain things.

Second, probably you will get a job, and you will find new atmoshopere for finding a friend that shares similiar beliefs. Indeed you can find it anywhere once that you found yourself.

I wish you a good luck in finding true happiness.Just by asking this question you seem human and concerened about the lonlines of people :).
