Me and my girlfriend are finally getting married on Easter this year. We live together in a three bedroom rental house along with my 3 year old daughter from a past relationship. Me, my fiancee, and my daughter all three sleep in seperate bedrooms. But after we get married we will have a spare bedroom and we are considering renting out the spare bedroom for extra cash. We are both 17 so only work part time after school and full time Saturdays. And with bills and rent and supporting my daughter we live on a tight budget. Renting out the extra bedroom after the wedding will help us more. But can some tell me the pros and cons of doing this? Renting out the bedroom.

First you would have to know and trust this person. If they are a close friend or someone in the family that would be great. But, remember sometimes this isn't good as they will screw you over. Like paying the rent and ect on time. Some people can come up with excuses why they can't at that time. Never rent to a stranger because of the way people are now days. If you have to rent the room out stick to friends or family.

Personally, I would never rent out a spare bedroom. There are too many crazy people out there and you could end up having lots of problems. Seems to me that at 17 you already have lots on your plate.

17?
I got to hand it to you then raising a child at that age is hard.
Hats off to you!

Now for your your money problems ,if you rent out the room be sure not to go for quick fix on money, you have a child there so be careful and if you get a bad vibe, then kick the person to curb, without a seconds notice.
Your daughter is the person who has to be secured in life.
Good Luck

I wouldn't have a renter. For one it is going to cause problems, you won't have any privacy, and you have to protect your daughter. It is not a good idea at all. Use the 3rd bedroom as an office or study area.

Good luck!

i could handle it i did it . one thing to watch for is the phone long distance charges. the other is i had one room rented to my brother and he was a pig nuts he brought a rabbit into my house for his boy who came on weekend but did not bring a cage i had a large german shepard that was used to killing rabbits and ground hogs for fun . i told him he could put the rabbit in the basement . i suggested we go to the hardware store and build a cage house for the rabbit . he would have none of it . i just had new carpet put in his room i mean days before i think two days before . he put the rabbit loose in the room and it sh!t all over my carpet . of coarse i knew the rabbit was in there as my dog was going insane to eat the rabbit . i had to kick him out . this other guy i rented too was ok but he ran up my phone bill and never paid.
as for being newly married a stranger might mess things up for you . you know do it in every room that sort of thing
fight play all that . but if money is needed then ok just make sure the person likes kids and you like the person . he or she would all most certainly bond with the child and as such you would have to be ok with the girl sitting on his or her knee normal stuff like that . if your inclinded to freak about such things then dont do this .

first of all, you're too young to get married. I hate to judge, but I don't think a lot of people would disagree with me. if you're gonna have a random person live with you and you have a child, you better get their SSN and DOB and do a background check. you might have to pay $50 or $100 for that but you can't have a wackjob living in your house, poisoning your food or whatever. or ask your friends if they have any friends/relatives who want to live with you. better if you have a mutual friend. do not post an ad on the internet, that's asking for trouble.

I have a four bedroom house all to myself and took a renter and hated it. I would never do it again.

I wouldn't recommend it. Could cause problems in the marriage, with the lack of privicy and finding someone whom your daugther will be safe around.

You would need to be certain any lodger is fit to be around your daughter and completely trustworthy.
