I would like to start a playgroup for younger parents and younger babies. There really isn't anything aimed for younger couples in my area. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to do this? Posting flyers, meeting places, etc.? I live in Dallas, TX if this is helpful.

Try craig's list, it's free and you can see where it goes. Also look for Mom's clubs online, this is a national organization for mom's and operates in most major cities. In the mom's club they have play groups almost every day of the week.

I've been a member of a playgroup that's been going strong for 4 years now. Our original 4 members were on a yahoo group for our town and the people there got tired of us talking about our babies through pre-schoolers so we started our own Yahoo group. It just kind of snowballed from there and spread both by word of mouth and by being in the yahoo directory.

The important thing we have is a sort of limited membership. A friend of mine is the moderator for MOMS group in the area and they have a huge yahoo group but no one knows each other and most people just lurk on their group. Ours you have to show up at a meeting and then you get approved for the playgroup YG. It keeps our membership smaller but we all know each other really well.

You might also try these sites to arrange meetings with people in your area:

I belong to a moms group, alot of the moms were recruited from myspace, playgrounds, places with lots of moms. You can start the group on an online forum and through there set up playdates, get togethers etc... Good Luck!

Too bad you live 4 hours away, our group is alot of fun!!

Word of mouth is good, if you have a few friends that have children that are the same age, encourage them to tell their friends. you can put up posters at the grocery store bulletin boards or you can use www.craigslist.com and post a bulletin on there. also in the newspaper in the classified section saying something simple like, "playgroup forming for 6-24 month babies. all are welcome to come join us at ____ on ____ at ___ o'clock! call "Judy" at 555-555-5555 for questions and to reserve a spot. hope to see you there!"

Check w/ your local hospital if they offer birthing & new parent classes. It's a good way to meet other new parents, prepare for parenthood and possibly get a group going.
