Yea, like the other guys said it is the top 8 teams in each conference. They changed the seeding process this year to make it go by records, instead of last year where the mavericks had the second best record and ended up as a 4 seed because of the stupid seeding rules that david stern finally realized were dumb. Miami will not win it. They will be very tough to beat but i think the pistons will take it. I picked the pistons vs spurs (rematch from 2 years ago) before the season started but dallas is very good in the west and so is phoenix. It'll be fun to see how it all pans out.

The top 8 teams in each conference go to the playoffs. The best team in each division gets an automatic bid into the playoffs.

and it goes by record 8 teams go in for each leaugue
it is either 1 or 2 teams from a dvision based upon their record
