If you just drove the car on short trips then the engine might never heat up enough to burn off water that condensed inside the cold engine. Enough water to create ice chunks does seem pretty remarkable though.

Change the engine oil more frequently and drive the long way to let the engine warm up are my only suggestions.

A bad head gasket, cracked block, etc. could let engine coolant into the oil, but it would have anti-freeze in it so it would form white foamy slime rather than ice.

Water had to get in the oil somehow. A blown head gasket (which don't always cause a miss) or cracked head or block is the usual cause. If it was ever overheated, it probably is the head gasket but could be a crack. Have it checked out. It can ruin an engine in no time.

Well I have been wrenching 35 years and I never heard of this crap.
Unless you punched a hole in the oil pan and the snow got in that way, there is only 1 way I can think of so called snow in the oil. Water yes, if you had a blown headgasket and the water got in there that way. But snow no way.

was you running water, instead of anti-freeze?if so then it probably busted the head and when it thawed out it ran into the oil.
