Not to be rude to anyone from Mexico, but they have a bad reputation in how they handle tourists. Do not go places that have a bad reputation and you can cut down on problems like this. Use your brain and common sense, there are places here in the States that one should not go at times. You can find fun and excitement right here at home in safe places.

Sounds to me like you did O.K. You actually prevented the Mexican police from planting drugs on you, so if it happens again repeat the same preventive measures that you used the firsts time.

Stay out of Mexico. Most Americans are clueless as to just how lucky we are to have most anything you desire right here in the good ole U.S.A. Traveling at all in many countries is a good enough reason to be stopped and questioned. Being an American in many countries is a good enough excuse for just about anything-just because they can.
