Instead there is a red x in the top left hand corner of the image box and even if I right click to show picture it still doesn't work.
Some pictures do show and some do not, are my settings wrong on my computer or is it the fault of the sender?

antivirus program on your computer could be blocking them I either get a red box or the x its adware in your program setting if you can disable it then you can see the pictures

yahoo and zonealarm block images for your safety you usualy get the option to accept them

yahoo blocks unwanted images,you can change this in the setting in your yahoo mail.
