What fuel will rule the future?

What will be the next big industry after fuel? Hydrogen? Electric cars? Compressed air cars? Or some other new technology?

I think there will be a continued fragmentation of fuel sources, sort of like what is happening right now. Hydrogen, solar, batteries, wind energy, high altitude wind energy, geothermal, deep well geothermal, water energy, tidal energy, biofuels, compressed air, gravitational energy and chemical energy will all have a place in providing the world’s increasing needs for energy sources.

I think that many people have the desire for one form of energy to take over the dominate the field, but I don’t think this will happen. Healthy competition will drive the different energy-makers to improve their products so that no single form of energy will take over and dominate the field like fossil fuels have for the past 100 or so years.

If you’re talking strictly about the automotive industry, keep an eye on hydrogen peroxide as the fuel of the future for powering automobiles and other vehicles.

Hydrogen fuel cell. Electric motors make great power (how about 100 hp from a motor that fits inside the wheel? That's 400 hp and 4WD in any car!) Also, no pollutants - hydrogen, when mixed with oxygen in a fuel cell, gives electricity and pure water. The water can then be broken down into hydrogen and oxygen, and the process starts all over again. And hydrogen is the most plentiful substance in the universe!

I suspect the two biggest energy sources in the twenty-second century will be nuclear power (quite possibly fusion) and solar. And my best guess as to what will power cars will be batteries if the technology can catch up.
